Meet Our Team

  • Sab Bham

    Founder

I have always had a passion to be an active member of my community. I began my volunteering journey at the age of 14 and was brought up with the belief that if something needs to be done then do not wait for anyone else. This has stuck with me throughout my life and formed our mission statement of ?Be the change in the community you want to see.? Salaam Peace was set up officially in 2009. Through continued hard work, passion and a strong team of people around me we have had an impact in our community. However, despite the challenges and successes there is always more to be done.

  • Azi Mohammed

    CEO

My journey with Salaam Peace started as a participant, aged 11. Since then I progressed through the community champions pathway. This included volunteering and part-time work for Salaam Peace, consisting of delivering community sports sessions in Waltham Forest and administrative tasks including income generation and monitoring/evaluation. After graduating with a first class degree in Psychology from King?s College London, I then joined the management team at Salaam Peace on a full-time basis. I line manage some of our staff/volunteers, generate income, manage projects and develop key partnerships. My efforts have been recognised through winning the London Impact Young Leader with Impact Award and Princess Diana Award.

  • Agne Daunoraviciute

    Girls and Women's Lead

Over the 10 years that I have been part of Salaam Peace, I have seen the organisation and the young people that we work with grow and improve. This has been inspiring and motivating to witness. My involvement in this development has been wide-ranging, from session delivery, to writing funding applications and completing various administrative work, to being the primary contact with some of the partner schools and funders. Now the attention has shifted to working with female staff and volunteers to support their progress within the organisation, as well as managing the U14s girls football team.

  • Khunais Ahmed

    Haringey Lead

I started with Salaam Peace as a participant at Leyton sixth form college in 2016 . I was playing football in the cage with friends and Sab encouraged me to stay for a college team training session. Over the next few years, I attended the Men?s football sessions and then joined the team as a volunteer and later a paid member of staff. I was very quickly made to feel welcome amongst everyone like a family but also given a space to be myself and believed in to help give back to my local community. Currently, I am the Haringey lead and work closely with secondary school partnerships in Waltham Forest. I have been fortunate to be a part of many impactful sports projects but also see the development of young boys and girls now become members of staff and champions of the local community. Alongside my work , I am also currently studying part time with the Open University in achieving a Sport, Fitness and Coaching degree.

  • Zuhayr Seedat

    Leicester Lead

My involvement with Salaam Peace dates back to when I started university in 2017. I attended the Men?s football sessions weekly, and it was through experiencing the benefits of the project firsthand that I was inspired to further my involvement with the organisation. As a student who moved out for university, Salaam Peace played a fundamental role in helping me settle in to London and provided me with a great support network. I currently lead our community engagement projects in Leicester. Outside of my role with Salaam Peace, I graduated from The London School of Economics with a BSc in Mathematics with Economics and currently work at BP as a global digital project manager.

  • Asif Shaikh

    Treasurer

I have known Sab since childhood. Although 2 years age difference Sab was of the generation above and was the Superstar Footballer and popular young person that we all looked up to. Sab engaged me and my friends through football and social education at Tyssen school in Hackney when he was only 14. These skills developed and success on the football pitch with Sab and Leyton All Stars as well as a successful career in IT means I have lived the Salaam Peace methodology. I got involved with Salaam Peace since its official inception, helping with our first funded project of engaging young men in Hackney through sport and social education.

  • Billy Pittson

    Graphics designer

My first interaction with Salaam Peace was when I took my 4 year old son along to a Sunday morning multi-sport session. The team onsite were very engaging with all the children, 4-11 years old, and seeing the relationship between staff and the participants was very inspirational. Being from an area that is used to a lot negative press, this was a feel good moment. I wanted to get involved and here I am!

I have had the privilege of working with and supporting Salaam Peace over a number of years. The youth development model created by Salaam Peace is one of a kind and a rare example of how you engage and develop young people into team players, coaches and youth leaders, as well as instilling pride in belonging to a dynamic organisation like Salaam Peace.
